Your Questions, Answered

What happens during the first session?

Your first session is focused on getting to know you and your relationship.

We’ll discuss what’s bringing you to counseling, explore your goals, and begin identifying the patterns that may be keeping you stuck. From there, we’ll work together to create a plan that’s personalized to your relationship.

Couples counseling sessions are typically 75 minutes, giving both partners the time and space to be heard while working toward meaningful progress together.

Most couples begin by meeting weekly or every other week. As you make progress and begin practicing new skills outside of sessions, appointments may become less frequent based on your goals.

Every relationship is different, but many couples benefit from 10–15 sessions. The length of counseling depends on your goals, the challenges you’re facing, and how consistently you’re able to practice what you learn between sessions.

My work is grounded in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, an evidence-based approach that helps couples strengthen communication, rebuild trust, resolve conflict, and deepen emotional connection.

Together, we’ll identify relationship patterns, practice new skills, and create lasting change.

At this time, couples counseling is offered in person only. In-person sessions often allow for deeper understanding of relationship dynamics and stronger communication during the counseling process.

Insurance is not accepted for couples counseling, allowing greater flexibility to tailor each session to your relationship’s unique needs. Insurance may be accepted for individual counseling services.
